It's been century since I last added an entry to this blog page.It was actually one of my dreams to maintain my own blog page since I started my "work from home" career. But it was a roller coaster ride for me as a freelancer for 6 years trying to get a company that will hire me as a regular employee.I have signed u p of several Jon hunting websites and took a lot of online exams trying my luck to at least have a decent job for at least a year.Odesk.com, freelancer.com,guru and elance are some of the "big websites I signed up for.I also tried some locally operated companies that offers home based jobs which most of them don't have any security of you will be paid for your work or not.
I was able to experience the darkest side of working from home.I was out of project for 4 months. It was really traumatic.I can't get any client or project and I don't even receive any invites anymore in spite of have 4.3 star feed back from one of the websites I was signed in fro about 4 years.I almost gave up.I was loosing hope already that I would be able to get a client.I made it a habit to get my phone and check my email every morning even before I brush my teeth just to check if I have an invite already.I gave my self 2 weeks. If I won't get any good email after 2 weeks I will need to update my resume and head to the nearest BPO company from my place.
One morning of July 2013 I received my first Odesk invitation for interview after 4 months. It was from a certain Ryan Whitmore searching for agents that will conduct phone survey for his client.I immediately responded to his email and thank God he was able to respond to my email. We then set a skype interview the next day.It was a casual conversation then I suddenly noticed that he was already briefing me for the post..So I interrupted him for a while and asked him directly "Am I hired?I noticed you are telling me about your company already and what I can expect for the position."I even asked for an apology for being so stright forward and the he responded "Of course you are hired Joan.I like you and I know you can help my team."It was a relief and I almost cried while thanking him.I was like"Thank you soooo much Ryan. You don't know how much this job means to me.I have been waiting for this for almost 5 months now and I am so thankful I met you."Ryan was amazed on how I reacted but he confirmed I am already hired then he sent me the contract. It was not really a super high paying project like with my last one(my rate was $11/hr) but I know this guy is a good person. So without any hesitations I said yes and accepted his offer. So again I will be working grave yard. Then after 3 weeks working with Mr. Whitmore a very familiar name sent another invite for interview. It was from the company I have worked with 4 years ago.I accepted the interview and luckily I was then again hired for the job but this time its a day job.So I will need to work from 9:00 am - 6 pm for this company then at 9 or 10 pm til 6 am for Mr. Whitmore.at least I still have like 5 or 6 hours to rest.It went on for like 6 months then I finally got a promotion for my Day Job.I was promoted from contractual to permanent.I lost Mr. Whitmore since he decided tom pause my contract but i have my day job still. In February I will be celebrating my anniversary with my company. It was worth the wait. All my hard work as a free lancer paid off.Now I am actually enjoying my leave incentive and was able to file it for Christmas and its paid.
I have learned a lot from my experience working from home.I started from scratch and now I am able to get a company who trusted me and hired me as a permanent employee.Actually I'm the first Filipino contractor that is not in Singapore that was given a status as a regular employee.
